image Welcome to CATSS

CATSS (Canyon Association to Support the School) is a non-profit, volunteer organization focused on community building and fundraising to support our school. We work in conjunction with CEF (Canyon Education Foundation) to plan fundraising events and help facilitate parent involvement in the school community. We meet monthly, and our membership consists of faculty and parents or guardians of children attending Canyon School (that’s you!). We look forward to your participation!

About CATSS

What we are

CATSS (Canyon Association To Support the School) is a non-profit volunteer organization focused on community building and organizing fundraising events to support Canyon School, a California public school located in Canyon, California, serving grades K-8. The organization was unofficially formed more than 15 years ago. Back then, our main objective was to develop community relations among school families. After registering as an official non-profit entity in 2001, we expanded our purpose to school fundraising events while continuing to promote community relations.

Who we are

Our membership consists of any parent, guardian, or immediate family member of any child enrolled in Canyon School, plus faculty members, and Canyon community members.  Our executive board consists of five volunteer parents.

What we do

We coordinate many school events such as the welcome breakfast and coffee mornings, the Halloween celebration, the all-school ice skating trip, and the all-school picnic to mention a few. We support other important events in the school such as the annual plays, the graduation ceremonies, and staff appreciations. On an annual basis, CATSS raises funds to support the above activities, and in conjunction with CEF (Canyon Education Fund) we raise money to help support the school’s general fund. More information about fundraising can be found on the Canyon School Fundraisers page. Check out the How to Volunteer page for more information about getting involved. Please attend a monthly meeting (check calendar) to offer suggestions or find other ways to get involved.

Please feel free to send questions and/or comments to us or contact a member of the executive board directly. We will respond as soon as possible. Thank you for visiting us online!

Language Program

Canyon School is proud and happy to announce that after several years of preparation, we are ready to provide an in-house Spanish program for the 2012-2013 school year. Esperanza will be leading the program. She has worked closely with our beloved Elena from Berlitz who is retiring this year. In addition to working with Elena, Esperanza has spent several years preparing to take this on by attending several international immersion programs as well as the Intensive Spanish Summer Institutes at LTCC. The staff has begun meeting to plan the curriculum and syllabus for each level. In K-1-2, we will emphasize poems, songs, and games to teach vocabulary and idioms. The syllabus will be organized around the seasons. Independent activities will be included in the language center as well. In 3-4-5, the emphasis will be on word recognition and simple conversation. Poems, songs, games, and cooking will enrich the curriculum. The 6-7-8 program will focus on grammar and verb conjugation and will include bi-monthly assessments and long term projects. Adios Elena, we will miss you! You became a part of our school family and your warm and nurturing personality was a wonderful match for this school. You will be very missed. Thank you for helping develop our stand-alone program!
